CITY OF PAMPA
ASST CHIEF OF SAFETY: CHARLEY THOMAS
CAPTAIN: JUSTIN THOMAS
LT: WAYNE HINDES
Hoover Volunteer Fire Department was started by a group of area landowners who saw the need for a rural volunteer fire department. Their first contract for firefighting services was signed in 1992 with a small response area in the north-central area of Gray County in and around the Hoover area. Since then, Hoover VFD has grown to cover a total primary response area of around 600 square miles in Gray and Roberts Counties operating out of 2 stations. Station 1 is located at Hoover, and Station 2 is located just off Price Road on the west side of Pampa.
Are you interested in volunteering? We have a limited few spots available! We train all members, both in-house and at area and state schools. Come visit with us!
2018 has already been an active fire season! Thank you to those who have supported us by donations of much needed funds, drinking water, and other items!
We are an all-volunteer department with around 30 firefighters who come from diverse backgrounds within the community, and a junior program which allows youth age 14-17 to participate on a restricted basis. We have 15 pieces of apparatus to respond to most any type of emergency including grass fires, structure fires, vehicle accidents and fires, medical assist calls, search and rescue, and most any other calls normal in the fire service. We also respond to mutual aid request from other departments and agencies in the Texas panhandle and beyond. We are dispatched by the Gray County Sheriff's Office located in Pampa.
Our department and all firefighters are members of the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshalls' Association of Texas, and we receive certification through them. We do in-house training, participate in area schools and classes, both host and attend TEEX classes, and participate in the Annual Municipal Fire Training School at Texas A&M University.

The financial aspect of our department relies on our annual budgets from Gray and Roberts Counties, and the financial support of local businesses and generous donors. We also recognize the many people who stop and say "Thank You". That means just a much as anything else. We are proud to be able to serve our community!
